Holistic Person - Centred Counselling
Integrative Counselling
Method of Levels (MOL) Therapy

Also known as Rogerian counselling, this therapy focuses on being heard and is suitable for many difficulties, particularly in processing thoughts and feelings without the need for a specific solution.

Integrative therapy is effective in various situations, allowing the use of techniques or concepts from multiple therapies to work together in unique ways to overcome difficulties that may have been resistant to other therapies.

MOL is less known in the UK, despite its long history, wide application and ample evidence of its effectiveness. It is especially useful when the problem is unclear or hard decisions need exploring.

How often are the sessions?

Regularity is important for the therapeutic process and most people have one session a week, but this can vary depending on your needs and availability. This is talked about at our first session.

What happens at the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, for you to ask questions and for me to get a deeper understanding of what brings you to counselling. We will talk about what you hope to get out of counselling and you can decide if you want you continue or if a better alternative is available, I can discuss this with you.

When and where are sessions available?

Therapy sessions can be had in person from my practice located in Broomhill, Sheffield, by Skype or by phone (or any combination of these). Sessions are available;

  • 10am to 8pm - Monday to Thursday

  • 10am to 7pm - Friday

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you will need depends on various factors; the complexity of the issue or problem, whether it depends on factors in your life or if it is internally driven, how long it has been present, your experience with engaging with therapy and other such factors. For this reason it is not possible to give a fixed guide, but please rest assured that the purpose of the therapies offered is always to complete therapy as soon and as effectively as possible. I will advise, based on my professional judgement, and therapy usually ends when we both agree that the purpose of therapy has been achieved. However, there is never any pressure to continue with therapy and sessions are booked one at a time.

Can I chose whether to have my sessions in person or remotely by video / phone?

Absolutely. I will try to tailor the sessions to best suit your needs, in both how we meet, and the day and time. Indeed, many of my clients are professionals who travel for work and sessions in person can be mixed with remote therapy to ensure that there is continuity of support. Also, some people prefer the convenience of video or phone sessions and many only rarely attend in person.

Is video and phone counselling really as effective as in-person counselling?

In short, yes it is. Many clients who try it do choose to switch to it or mix it with in-person sessions. Even before Covid, which forced all psychotherapy to shift to being provided remotely, video and phone counselling were already well-established practices and widely provided, including by the NHS. Indeed, I have been providing remote therapy for many years and have specific training to make it as effective as in-person sessions.
